Can a debt recovery co legally buy a debt from a card company & demand payment when I haven't heard anything for years?

How many years? Usually debts can be chased for 6years from the date you last paid or acknowledged the debt (5 in Scotland). If there is a CCJ on the debt then they could chase for longer.
