I have gone through he complaint procedure for my endowment bought in 1990 with Norwich Union. The response has been quick and efficeint - no problem there.
I have just been made an offer to compensate how much i am out of pocket according to the calculations of the software they use based on the information i have given them.
Is this like car insurance where you would normally reject the first offer or would it be safer to accept whats initially been offered?
Any advice please???!!

It is not negotiable. There is a defined calculation process and as long as the information has been input correctly and that defined process used then you wont get anywhere asking for a reculation.
Indeed, with NU being one of the better with profits funds (assuming its with profits), any recalculation could see the redress reduce due to investment performance.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
