Yes of course, There is the occasional good buy.... there's no need for people to turn this into a rant (but it always happens I'm afraid).
Yes, there is a great deal of gratuitous offensiveness. To WhiteHorse, I may be making assumptions here, so please correct me if I'm wrong, but you sound like you haven't ever lived on the bread line as it were.
It is a wrong assumption. Unfortunately. If you buy a "better" brand of sausage - say I don't know £3.50 for 8 sausages versus the £1 for 40 sausages - how on earth can you realistically apply your advice?
The point being made is that the quality is so low that sometimes you are better off without.Sometimes, it really is about putting food on the table you know.. the money is not the same.
Some of it is so bad, that it's not even food anymore.
So ...
Why not make your own? And ... wait for the flak with this one ... meat eating is for the wealthy. Give it up and money goes a lot further."Never underestimate the mindless force of a government bureaucracyseeking to expand its power, dominion and budget"Jay Stanley, American Civil Liberties Union.0 -

Many Many thanks for this, even better than my own find. and I must say
that it has helped several people I know, apart from ,myself I really do need cheap meals at the moment. One young Mum that I told was able to hold her babs birthday party very cheap based round these, and my pensioner neighbours are very pleased with their cheap meals.Slimming World at target0 -

Eat better but eat less.
YES I would, did and will, could you please tell me what I could eat, better, for 5p, two sausages, . apart from my frugal porridge that I eat every morning/supper, if I eat less think I will be on starvation dietSlimming World at target0 -
FAO some of the posters on this thread who are looking down their noses at these sausages.....
......it would be wonderful if we all had the luxury of carefully examining the nutritional qualities of all of the food we purchase and only buying the finest produce.
It would be wonderful if we could all feed our families on nothing but organic meat, fruit and vegetables.
It would be wonderful if I had more than just a handful of change in my purse to last me until next week - but I don't.
What I do have though, is a couple of bags of these bangers in the freezer, a bag of potatoes and a pantry full of pasta and baking ingredients so at least I won't be worrying that my 3 children will have empty bellies for the next 5 days. I've enough on my mind panicking about how I'm going to pay my credit cards this month without that as well.
Sometimes we have to make decisions that might be far from ideal, don't we? And if the kids are happy to eat them, then that's what they're going to eat until my financial position improves and I can afford higher quality meat for them.
Sorry if that offends some but them's the breaks!0 -
There are ways to eat healthier for the same amount - however, it can take time, discipline, effort and luck.
1) when you shop go to the bargains first and luck not for processed food but the meat and fresh produce. got a great pack of pork mince for 75 p which will do 4 meals.
2) do as the producers do and cheat. If you get mince for home made burgers, fill them out with grated onion (it blends better than chopped) and breadcrumbs.
3) make use of dried pulses (beans) They are extremely nutritious and contain a lot of protein, and can therefore replace (partially or fully) the meat part of a meal.
4) get used to eating less meat, as the poor do around the world. I would not advocate cutting it out but we eat more meat on average than we need (nutritionally). Try to limit meat, or use smaller pieces in stews or savoury rice rather than serving everyone a full chicken breast or gammon.
To be honest - half a tin of 11p baked beans for beans on toast are healthier option that 5p of sausage on toast. Sorry - its true.
I am not being holier than thou - and would support this deal for people who need it (the kids party is a classic example). However, I would suggest looking for a better healthier long term issue as fatty sausages should not be a served for every meal! Sorry - I am sure they are not but I just had this image of every meal containing a half dozen sausages!
The fact is meat costs to be produced and you get what you pay for. greasy sausages are great for a party or post night out fry up. But there are other options to help balance the week out.
As for the people who are being very critical - think of this. Most people would buy their children the best quality food they could. if people did not think they had to, I am sure they would be all going to the farmers market. It would serve them better to suggest other healthier options rather than look down on them from ivory towers................ Have you ever wondered what

They're in the 4 packs for £3 offer now too.
So that's 160 sausages for £3, can't be bad! You can get about 12 tins of beans for that. Someone should tell Sally Webster, she'll be able to pack in working.0
