Leather Repair Cover is it worth it?

Hi, I have just ordered a leather suite from DFS and they asked if I wanted the Leather Care Cover which basically covers me if i spill wine, coffee etc on furniture and it marks it, they will come out the same day and remove the stain or replace the section of leather if untreatable.
I have said no to this cover but not sure if I have done the right thing. We have had a leather suite for many years and never come across this problem although I am told the leather on my new suite is porous and can leave a white stain from any spillages. Any advice or experience of this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Cinzano (lovely with orange and ice Mmm lol)
I took cover out on mine, that was ages ago and it's now expired.. I didnt need to make a claim at all. I think I was more concerned about potential tears when I took it out not necessarily spills.
What colour is your sofa?
Are you covered under your contents insurance for accidental damage? and what does that cover? (replacement leather?)0 -
I've never heard of porous leather. I've had leather suites for many years and have never had a problem with any spills at all. I bet the cover wasn't cheap either. I'm sure you have done the right thing. My opinion anyway.travelover0

The suite is black leather and the cover cost is £2 per month. I do have accidental damage on my contents insurance. I feel that if any spillages are wiped up straight away I cant see it staining the leather, although I do understand what you say about tears.0

Hi there
wow thats cheap... i take its £2 per month for as long as you have the sofa though.
have you ever owned a leather sofa? i'm just thinking you could weigh up your risk of any potential problems with tears etc
I would say keep your sofa well treated/polished etc
Maybe you could put aside the £24 a month you would have paid - to use against your insurance accidental damage excess if need be... Just check what they will cover leather wise etc
For me i think i was being cautious as it was my first leather sofa..and sofa even lol ddint know how it would wear etc.. I have tried to be careful and changed the cushions round regularly, keep it clean and polish (when i remember) but things have been fine ... its dark brown
I have checked my cover was £200 for 5 years.0 -

The best quality leather has a porous finish, Aniline leather, and it takes some maintaining to keep it looking gorgeous! It absorbs water and can get scratched quite easily.
Other leather's have a shiny finish to them, which are coated with stuff to protect them so don't wear and tear as much, but despite the maintenance aspect, aniline is the best.0
