Cheap glasses

Hopefully someone can help me. I've finally faced up to the fact that I need glasses. My work can arrange me to have an free eye test (at SpecSavers) but do I have to get the glasses there as well?
Only I notice they charge £125 for two pairs and I dont think I need two pairs. Is this a good offer anyway? I have absolutely no idea how much glasses cost and what the process is..
Sorry if this is the wrong forum as well

Hi,
Don't worry - nothing wrong with needing a little help with the eyesight. I've been wearing glasses for 40 years! Anyway, you can get a prescription from Specsavers and buy your glasses where you like based on that.
If you search the forums you'll find some threads about online purchases. Sites like http://www.goggles4u.com/ will sell you a pair from as little as £15.Can I help?0 -
I dont think I need two pairs
You might want to consider getting one pair of prescription sunglasses.
Alternatively you could get one pair of the "reactions" type, although these do have downsides.
Technically you aren't supposed to wear these for night driving because they have a tint.
In my case I find the tint so light that I don't think it makes any difference but they will still tell you that for legal reasons.
Oh, and another problem with them is that they don't work inside vehicles.
This is because they react to UV light and most windscreens block this out, so on a sunny day they are a problem.
Therefore you might want to rethink whether you can manage with one pair only. Most people I know do have another pair of prescription sunglasses.0 -
Depending on how bad you eyesight is you can get one "decent" pair and then do what I did an buy a pack of 3 from Costco for about 12 quid.
Only useful if you are a Costco memebr I realise so sorry if this is not the case.We all evolve - get on with it0 -
Wooo, thanks all. That's been a great help.
If anyone has seen some especially snazzy mens glasses lately, please feel free to post links or send me a PM
Thanks again0 -

These two threads seem to have a long list of online providers. As it's your first pair, it might be worth trying some on and picking out a pair you like and then - have a look online and see if you can find a similar pair. Some online sites will let you upload a photo and 'try on' the specs, and most will give the measurements of the glasses (lens height, width, diameter (that's the diagonal size of the lens), nose bridge size, arm length, front length). Make sure you ask for your pupillary distance when you get your prescription.
