As has already been said the photobooks available to the public are really good value for your holiday photos but maybe not so for your wedding photos. Unlike a proffesionally printed and bound wedding storybook or coffee table book, the likes of Bobs books and photobox products will not last structurally nor in colourfastness. I have purposely tested this by having a couple of my pro albums reproduced by these public manufacturers. They looked good at the outset but in the space of 2 years the colours are no longer as vibrant, the spine is weakened and the pages are rippled and no will not lie flat.......

So I surpose where I'm heading is the old story of you get what you pay for applies here more than ever!

To answer the OP's Question, if you feel you have to question the value you are offered by your photographer, perhaps you're not beeing offered value ??

Remember you are not just paying for your photographer to be there for x hours and then to deliver an album or prints. You're (hopefully) paying for them to apply years of experience, using (probably) thousands of pounds of photographic equipment to capture the emotion of your big day and when the day is done you hope, no, expect them to compile a stunning presentation of your images that you and your family can enjoy for years and years to come.

but hey, that's just my take,
;) Hiring a wedding photographer? Remember to check out their samples and previous work before you book ! ;)
  • thanks for the replies, it's very reassuring. he's using graphistudios.

  • sorry for the confusion, i just googled photobooks and linked the first thing just so people knew what i was on about.

the supplier he's using is https://www.graphistudio.com

I am happy to pay a fair price for his input, experience and skills... however I'm not a photographer and couldn't find comparable quotes anywhere else, that's all I was asking.

i hope he does a lovely job for you i have no idea if it is a fair price or not as I will not be paying more than £400 for any photos. But I really like photography so we have a very expensive camera of our own that I will be asking guests to try and use and I am looking forward to making our own books so that I can make personal ones for us and smaller sorts of things for presents for guests who attended. I thought the link to ones you can do yourself would be ideal for people in my situation who are trying to cost cut as much as possible. Plus bear in mind if you get all your photos on CD and are on a tighter budget there is nothing stopping you from contacting a local graphic designer at a later date to make a book for you when you have more money.

Graphi studio is one of the top ones, and one that is used by many photographers, i dont know exactly how much they are but i doubt they are cheaper than the people i use, so therefor, £500 is a standard price. However if you wanted to pay less im pretty sure you could have less pages.

  • I dont think Graphi make 'coffe table books' like bobbooks or photobox....they do digital albums. Although in fairness they call them 'books'. They are a top album company used my many photographers. I think £1150 for all day coverage and a 50 page album, and all images on a disc is a good price (certainly cheaper than me). Providing he is a good photographer of course!

It all works out good in the end.
If it's not good, it's not the end!

When they get it right Graphi are first rate books but when they make a mistake their customer service is appalling; in this scenario it's your designer who is the customer so you'll have nothing to worry about - you'll be getting a quality product.

Wherever you store the album throw in some silica gel sachets and change them every few months - you don't want moisture getting into a very treasured and very expensive possession. I'd also backup the disk of images onto a usb stick.

Graphistudio only sell their books to professional photographers. They are good quality books.
