Selling some gold, hallmark question

Hi,
I have an old gold chain that has been broken for some time & don't really see the point in getting it repaired as its not something I would wear (given as birthday present years ago).
I have been trying to read the hallmarks, from what I can see the chain has a 375 stamp (9carat?) but i'm sure the clasp is stamped with 875 (21carat?).
My partner is saying that it is not possible to have both, ie if the chain is 9 carat the clasp will be too.
After reading reviews on here I will be sending it off to a certain company (not sure if i'm allowed to post names) but I have to write in the carat & weight of the item before sending.
