Spanish Mortgage

We have a property abroad in Spain and transfer money every month to our account at Bankinter to pay our mortgage (with bankinter) and utilities.
The hidden fees that they charge are a joke, are there any euro accounts in the UK, ie with Santander where it can be run from the uk, but pay bills in euros in Spain.
Any info appreciated, sick to death of getting ripped off!!

Having just returned from Spain your problem was one found by many expats who were transferring regularly out there and unfortunately bank charges are all too common there. Even an ordinary current account you will be charged for stndard transfer fees internally within Spain and annual charges for credit cards etc.
Barclays bank are becoming more prominent there as are Halifax dependent on which area you have your property but they may well be worth try. Who is the mortgage with?
Whenw e had a mortgage there we used to send funds every 6 or 12 months through a currency dealer which seemed to reduce the charges plus generally got us a better exchange rate.0 -
The only fees from my bank (Caja Granada) is a yearly charge of about ten euros. It's called a 'Savings Bank' though (caja de ahorros) which I believe is similar to a Building Society. We do have money transferred in and direct debits going out.
They are very local though, I'm not sure there are many outside Granada Province, although there are other savings banks all over the country.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0
