Can you stop creditors visiting you?

I recently got a letter from a creditor (not a debt collection agency, the actual company I owe the money to) saying they have "arranged for a representative to visit you at your address". I am absolutely against it - is there anything I can do to stop them?

    yes,

Firstly, they are only allowed if you agree at a time for your choosing. They have absolutely no right of entry to your home.

Secondly, you can remove their common law right to enter your property - bascially what allows the postman to get to the door.

Cannot get the search to find the standard letter however as it keeps collapsing.

They seem to have phrased it as "if this is inconvenient for you, give us a call" but if I give them a call as they suggest, they will demand money and I don't have any next week. Should I still call them?

Basically, I don't even want them knocking on the door of my property, I'm not worried about letting them enter because I know they have no right but I absolutely do not want them going anywhere near my house at all!

I have tried searching but I'm so angry at the moment I can't think of the right keywords to use!

Edit: found it! YES! Recorded delivery I assume?

Oh, and also, they keep spelling my surname completely wrong, do I mention this in the letter or spell it right or spell it how they spell it?

  • Hi iv just had the exact same letter today from the halifax bank, I assume this is to discuss/demand my overdraft fees totalling around £280. I am however in a debt management plan so am going to call them and tell them I do not wish for them to visit my property, hope they accept same?
  • Hi, hope this helps, below is the standard template letter for doorstep visits. Send it out to them recorded post and don't phone them as they will only try to get money from you. SNS

    Dear Sirs,

    Account No: XXXXXXXX

Please be advised that I will only communicate with you in writing. I have noted your repeated attempts to contact me over the past few weeks and these have been duly logged by time and date. Should it be your intention to arrange a doorstep visit, please be advised that under OFT rules, you can only visit me at my home if you make an appointment and I have no wish to make such an appointment with you.

There is an implied license under English Common Law for people to be able to visit me on my property without express permission; the postman and people asking for directions etc (Armstrong v Sheppard & Short Ltd [1959] 2 QB 384. per Lord Evershed M.R.). Therefore take note that I revoke license under Common Law for you, or your representatives to visit me at my property and, if you do so, you will be liable to damages for a tort of trespass and action will be taken, including but not limited to, police attendance.

    Yours faithfully
