Hello! Just bumping this up for you as no replies!
Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.
Starting 2016 With debt of £7700
  • hello and welcome!!!

People will be along with lots of advice soon. Most of us on here use a statement of account see link -http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html

it makes sure everything is covered (the current soa misses some things out eg buildings/contents insurance, car tax/mot/servicing, nothing for Xmas and B'days so doesnt give you the true picture) and presents it in a really readable way, so my first piece of advice would be to complete this and post that, it include interest rates etc etc and is very thorough.

Working on what you've posted so far, gas and elec seem high? can you shop around? Internet can be reduced that is v high.

Best of luck with it you'll get there!

Hi tnkabel and welcome and well done for making that first step.

My only concern is that you haven't budget for car tax & MOT etc, I know you hope there to be enough left from the groceries but it might be worth including a small budget rather than commit too much to your unsecured creditors.
Equally things like presents & haircuts need thinking about.

Does the salary mean just one of you is working? are you at home because of the age of your children? Are you entitled to any more benefits? I wonder if you could get any housing benefit towards your rent for example?

You seem to have identified that car insurance & internet etc can be reduced so hopefully you can give yoruself some slack there.

If you haven't yet sent the budget I would build in little extra costs (such as road, tax, haircuts etc) to show a slightly lower monthly amount for debts. It won't make much difference to them if your total is say £200 not £215, or even £180, its better to make sure you have a small cushion so you can keep to the agreements.

    Good luck

You have split the payment correctly pro-rata though which is good. Have you found a template letter to put with your offer? have you also asked if they will freeze interest & charges?

How far behind are you with rent & ct - is it just those amounts mentioned above?

or "It costs nowt to be nice"
  • I tend to agree with most of what has been said on here so far.

Definitely look at your gas and leccy and see if a little can be shaved off there.

Consider making some form of provision for MOT etc on cars (they only go wrong when you have no dosh).

You might be able to get car insurance and AA down a bit. Shop around.

PS Good luck with it. Every bit you pay off is less interest for the moneymen that have ruined this country.
Credit cards + Loans - Savings in Jan 2012 = £26,228.16 . Need to get paying them off!
  • hi thanks for all the replys
well for gas we cant move as i owe them and where on a stupid card meter which takes 5 pound a week of what we put on, electric i am looking into. yes i dont work partner does we do get which i havent put down is some housing benefit but i didnt want to tell the creditors this as that means i will have a little money extra each month for the non essentals presents haircuts and such like :) is that very wrong we also have been looked into by housing benefit and they have come to the conclusion that we owe them over 2000 in overpayments so they are going to take that off the sum they are paying if that makes sense this is out of my power i have no say but they say it will be 10.00 per week
i have done my letters i got a template from the debline website which does ask to freeze interest for us just need to find another to ask welcome finance to stop our insurance payments then all are set to go THANKYOU XX

since you have all your figures already this should help but you might find it promts a few other things you hadnt thought off
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • hi sorry yes the outstanding rent a cc are just those amounts xx

Don't know if you use Tesco's for your shopping but if you do you can get RAC cover using the vouchers - which would save you quite a bit of money.
Good luck with getting sorted out.
