pool cleaner

I have a 12ft fast set swimming pool, i treat it every night with correct chemicals, it now has white pieces floating around it and all on the bottom of, any idears what i can get to sort this out exept for skimming it for days! could it be suntan lotion?

    Sun tan lotion leaves an oily film on the surface of water. It could be a build up of sun tan lotion, but I'm not sure.

    We swam in some natural waters in Mexico and sun tan lotion was banned due to the fragile eco-system.
    Here I go again on my own....
