'Dixons'/'The Tech Guys' - TV not repaired ?

Hi,

I bought a new LG 42" Plasma TV last August from Dixons Online and it developed a pixel/screen problem. Their in-house repair service 'The Tech Guys' collected it two weeks ago to repair it.

Today it was returned BUT the pixel problem hasn't been repaired !! The delivery guy switched it on and noticed it immediately and agreed to write it on his notes he left a copy of

He was going to take it away again but I didn't want to risk being without a TV for another two weeks, only for them to call me and say it was unrepairable. He agreed and left the TV.

Before I call them I thought I'd see if my trusty moneysavingexpert friends could shed some light ;-)

What is my best course of action now ?

The delivery guy told me (off the record) that they give customers redeemable vouchers for replacement TV's and that's what I should pursue.

I would like a new TV (same model fine), I just want one that works properly for the 500 quid it cost.

Thanks in anticipation.

Chris

If it was off the record, why am I hearing about it you squealer? ;)

I think you should have let the delivery guy take the TV back with him. You could then have immediately persuded a replacement or the vouchers stating that the TV had already been for repair once and that it was delivered back to you without being repaired and without even being tested and that that was unacceptable.

You still can argue that. Your only option now is to contact them and tell them how unhappy you are and ask for a replacement rather than a repair and state that being without a TV for another X weeks would be a significant inconvenience which is contrary to the Sales of Goods Act and that the only acceptable remedy would be a replacement or vouchers. See what they say.
  • Thanks 'Pendulum' - I'll try the firm but friendly approach first and see what happens - will post results/updates here.....

This is why it can be sometimes better to bypass the retailer and contact the manufacturer for a repair under warranty. There's no way I'd let this outfit anywhere near an expensive TV.

I wouldn't have said LG was a good name for Plasma. Panasonic, Pioneer (now defunct) yes, Samsung at a push but not really LG. Having said that you can have a problem with any manufacturer, regardless of reputation, its just luck of the draw.

I too am just about to wave goodbye to my TV for the second time. the first time it went i never saw it again and it hit the 28 days mark where dixons policy states that they will give a new TV out. I am just about to so a post on this myself as i need help with a letter.

no it was a panasonic... they still have it, thats one week down, 3 to go without a TV they have emiled back and said i could change models though. which i will. i thought if i chose panasonic i would not have problems as they are widely billed to be the best but it hasnt been so with mine.
