how many should we cater for !!!!!!!

It is OH 40th next month and we are having caters in. We hope to get 80 to 100 people all adults . how many would you cater for ?

I am sure at our wedding evening do we did 70% of guests . It is from 7 to 11.30 and all the guest live locally so no one has far to travel .

Also what time would you serve the finger buffet was thing of about 8.30 ish

At our wedding we catered for 70% of the guests and, like all buffets, there was quite a bit left over at the end. My friend is a caterer and they usually say to cater for two thirds of the amount of guests you have coming. If no one has far to travel, you might find that most people have had their meal before they come out and then just pick at the buffet so you don't want to over do it, unless you want to eat leftovers for your lunches for the next week (which I quite like, actually! )

Also, between 8-8:30pm should be a good time to serve the buffet - give people time to arrive, get a drink and mingle for a bit then get the food out. Make sure you get someone to announce that the buffet is open as I've been to a few parties where this hasn't been done and people are sort of milling around getting hungry thinking, "do we start or don't we..." near the food!
