Is this normal?

Had a letter from BoS (who are my main creditors, 3ccs, 1 loan) in the week, asking me to phone their financial advice centre for a free financial check up, etc, etc. So as I'm in the middle of starting a DMP I rang them to see what they had to say, spoke to a charming gent we went thru a SoA and at the end he said to me to "My advice Sir is to contact a company we support called Payplan and contemplate starting a DMP".
After sitting back on the chair I had just fallen off, I thanked him and said I would probably take his advice.
Is this normal behaviour from banks?
Obviously, if I get any grief from BoS when I start the DMP I shall quote this chap, but it all seems v odd, or am I just paranoid?

No, it's abnormal in the extreme. For heavens sake don't tell too many people of the poor chap will no doubt get fired for not encouraging you to take out a managed loan, or sell your soul to the seventh level of hell.
Wow. I can see why you were thrown off kilter by that.
Good luck with the DMP xSome days, it's just not worth chewing through the leather straps....

:j Yay, you got a conscietious, decent guy who either knows what it's like, or is new enough to the job, that they haven't brain-washed him yet! Let's hope he can infect the rest of the workforce... then be head-hunted, making his way around all financial institutions before turning to the dark side!

The only time I heard of someone getting advice like that from his bank, it turned out the chap had just handed his notice in and was about to start work for the Citizens Advice Bureau!0
