Went raspberry picking in Hartley Wintney (Hants) today.
Really cheap compared to supermarkets and I must have eaten about 1/2 a kilo whilst I was walking around picking them
Also did a blind taste test against some supermarket ones we had and the PYO won hands down.0 -
The strawberry farm on the A177 behind Tescos, Stockton-on-Tees, Cleveland finishes picking on Sunday 23rd July
Though there was loads there yesterday, lots going to waste because of the weather.
It only took 10 minutes or so for me to pick nearly 4lbs
Price £1/lb
If you don't like the look of a strawberry, don't pick it. You only get the ones you pick.
They grow 6 different varieties and there is only one way to find out which you like best ;-)
Don't worry they tell you to try them
Some varieties last longer than others, if that's important to you I'm sure they'll tell you which to go for.
All last longer if you leave the stalks on and if you carry them home in the boot where no-one can get at them

If you have a garden it is well worth growing your own raspberries. Strawbrerries are OK but take more looking after and don't yield so much for the area they take up. Raspberries will grow anywhere. Buy or scrounge one or two roots - you can get early and late to lengthen the season - then divide them up at the end of the year and replant. Soon you have a row. Grown against a fence they take up hardly any room. Then it's PYO dessert for about four weeks every summer.Love living in a village in the country side0

Yeah, but I don't actually have a problem with the D's growing strawberries.
Tillington is more family friendly though.
Have you escaped the big L now then?0 -

Hi
Any one know how to find where your local place to pick fruit would be?Especially rasberrys as they always seem to hold there price and are hardly ever on offer even in the markets. Anyone know of somewhere on Merseyside????
Thanks
