    No they dont.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.
  • Hi Guys I have some great news. The summons has been withdrawn. I spoke to the council again today and the told me the summons has been with drawn because there is now an investigation with the property. They also said that there was an application for a loft conversion for that address and it hasn't been approved as yet and there is nothing about the property split. They said they got and inspector out who confirmed the property is split in two and they have pass their details over to some Land Revenue people or the other to inspect and valuate the flats. They said I will need a tenancy agreement to show the landlord was responsible for the Council Tax and they will keep in contact . Thanks to everyone for there help especially CIS and Firefox. Thank you very much:beer:

I believe they are referring to the Valuation Office Agency, an Executive Agency of HMRC whose job is to band dwellings in England and Wales. The split can be backdated so you may still have to pay CT for the time you occupied the flat.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • ok but he also said if I can provide a tenancy agreement there might be a chance the land lord will have to pay the council tax. I was also able to get in contact with one of the new tenant today and they have a tenancy agreement I am going to try and get a copy and see what I can do.

Bare in mind that a new tenancy agreement would not be proof of a previous tenancy agreement.
