Payment Protection

Long story cut short my dad got a loan 5 years back and was told HE HAD to take out loan protection on his loan, he was paying like £60+ a month for that , he was in the bank the other day and the bank manager told him he didnt need to take it out and UNOFFICALLY he could claim this back, ive did the bak charges thing and claimed that back but i no nuttin about payment protection anyone help ?
Better to understand a little than to misunderstand a lot.
