I am working on a cereal bar for Bob and shirley,- honey and raisin flavoured.
I'd like to add nuts to it, but I need some help first please from anyone whose family regularly eats peanut butter on bread / toast as a breakfast/lunch option.
If you would give me an idea by weighing the bread before and after the PB has been spread, then I can get an idea of how much PB the family need.
Thanks in advance! :A:D
I often have this for breakfast with 2 or 3 sliced tomatoes. I would use 2 tblsp for each slice, have just weighed this and it was 50g. Yum
Haven't had breakfast yet, off to make some toast now and have some peanut butter and toms mmmmm0 -
Peas or beans would be fine but dh has a very physical job and would not be happy with just fritters and veg although the rest of us would be fine. Also I personally would use chickpea flour for batter but I always have that in anyway. I buy it cheap at the local asian supermarket.
I will try all the recipes as they are first. Then maybe make changes.0 -

I've started an old-style thread to see if I can make chick pea flour from our dried chick peas. If so, that will be a great swap, thanks

I agree:), what particularly were you thinking sian? x
I think the biggest thing that it suggests is that, by modifying someone’s diet and helping them to get out of debt, you are actually adding YEARS to their lives! Not only that but those extra years could be without the significant mental burden of debt. This would be a great piece of supporting ‘evidence’ for the validity and importance of your challenge. To save that much a year is phenomenal and this could get a family out of debt, help another family to re-evaluate their health and spending, help another to save for something they have always wanted, like a family car or a great holiday or university support for a child, help other people to live a more sustainable life so they can save for the future, help children learn how to cook and look after themselves whilst living alone or at university… The possibilities of it changing many lives are great and I think it is worth you thinking really big, you have a remarkable way of sweeping people along with the momentum of your great ideas and I am sure there would be many, many of us who would get behind you if you took this to campaign form! Martin is on a number of radio shows and tv shows, if you got his attention you would only need a brief mention to have people flooding in to a website/resource with your ideas… I talk about you quite a lot in my work and at home and with friends, I admire you greatly, and, whilst my circumstances are different from your fictional family, I am very happy to be along for the ride!

Weezl, can I ask a question about the pickled cabbage? Is there any reason why you're using pickled? I noticed on mySupermarket (which I know can be wrong) that they don't count this in the F&V totals. Googling also suggests that pickled veg isn't counted but I can't really find a definitive answer. Just wondering why maybe not to use a standard red cabbage? In Asda it's 68p/kg and might be more palatable to some people as part of a salad (I've no idea I never eat cabbage that much!!!) I'm thinking you wanted to use the vinegar and it was a way of ensuring you had some for the pickle?2010 Cost of Living Challenge - £901/£5300 * Grocery challenge - £117.91/£120 *Total Debt- [STRIKE]£6388.74[/STRIKE] £5995.66 :eek:Debt Free Reward Pot £11 * Overdraft vs 100 days £363.76/£800 *Feb NSD's 8/120

I think we all have our own challenges really and this thread is about how to do yours to the highest degree. You're helping me with my 101 things to do in 1001 days as I want to cook at least 5 MSE recipes! I am thinking the fritters shall be my next make...
I had some peanut butter this morning on my slice of bread, it was 13g (I love my super accurate scales) and would be good for a 2 slice sandwichGod is good, all the time

Hi, finally catching up with the thread - my it grows quick!
I made Carrot Cake. Only a halfa portion coz it's just going to me and I'll eat it all (no room in the freezer at all).
I used 100g sugar, 100ml oil, 2 eggs, 180g carrots, 150g raisins and slightly ancient sultanas, and 175g flour, plus just under a tsp bicarb and about one and a half teaspoons garam masala. Soaked the fruit in tea as had just made myself a cuppa and had no orange at all.
Tis very nice... have eaten rather too much of itbut the half amount does indeed make 16 small squares of cake. We are very much a sweet toothed family but I think with the reduced sugar it's still sweet enough, but we would eat two squares of cake that size as a snack
So to make a full portion... using weezl's costings.... Would work at 4.89 per slice of cakey.
I think it could still have a little less oil.
I'm actually on here looking mostly for some cheap meals and cake ideas as I know OH wouldn't go for a veggie meal. I'm just going to pick a few things out.
If anyone can come up with a cheap chocolate cake recipe that would be good - as its always the kids first voteworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

quite a bit less than mine then at 2tblsp per slice, or 25g. Mind you, that is generous, maybe I should cut it back, it's very calorific after all0 -
