Help! I can't pay my mortgage.

Long story short - my husband walked out on me and our two very young children a year ago. Since then I've done, what I know now, some really stupid things and maxed out on all my credit cards to help pay the mortgage and bills etc. I now can no longer get any more credit and can't afford to pay my mortgage. My ex hasn't contributed to half the mortgage since he's left but does give me some money towards the children. Until this month!!! He is self employed and lost most of his work so haven't received any money. I have seeked advice from Payplan and they have organised letters to all my creditors offering £1 per month, but am still waiting to hear back. My mortgage is due to be paid tomorrow, but can't pay! I have been on the phone to the mortgage company (Birmingham Midshires) since last year explaining the situation and asking for any type of help. So far they have refused to help and told me if I don't make the payments they will start court action.

I would really appreciate any advice anyone can give regarding what to do - I'm on my knees!!!!

  • My first thoughts would be to speak to the CAB, and to be honest, Id sell up and try and rent somewhere, as "single mum" Do you work, i'm assuming you dont? renting would mean you would be likely to get that paid by HB and also CTB.

Surely there must be some kind of insurance protection that should cover you, but then again they should also be chasing hubby for payemnt too if the mortgage is still in both your names?
  • Have spoken to CAB, who didn't really help! I do work part-time and have been told if I sell the house I am making myself homeless so wouldn't get any help. Rent is roughly the same amount as my mortgage!

If you're thinking of the mortgage rescue scheme I would contact your local council's housing advice department.

U may not get housed by council if u sell the house but would be able to private rent and depending on your income get. Help with rent from benefits. Yr x is equally liable for mortgage as well.
