I need some serious help!!

Hi Guys,

Im at a total loss at the moment and need some advice. I have recently split with my partner and this has caused a major hit on my finances. Currently im earning about 1300 pounds a month and i have bills to pay that total nearly 1600. As he was the one that moves out im left paying the rent and the bills all by myself. Im trying to find somewhere cheaper to live, but as I have an awful credit history from years ago, no where will take me on and I cant afford to keep paying the application fees just to be turned down. Moving in with family is not an option and I dont have anyone that can help me with any money.

Currently the debt collectors are on my back, Im paying them the best I can and am trying to set up arrangements to pay only what I can afford for now, but Im struggling to look after myself!, I need to run my car to get to work, I have no food in the house I just keep scrounging which is difficult, and makes me feel awful!

Any advice on how to make money, or to live on a tight budget would be much appreciated, Im not good at these things and Im terrified that people are going to try and take stuff from my home, my ex took enough with him when he left!!

Thanks

  • So sorry to hear your situation. I can't offer much help really, but wanted to say things will get better, and I am sure there will be people along soon to offer some help.

If you put up a SOA http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html we may be able to see a clearer picture of your situation.

You can reduce outgoings very easily.
Groceries - drop a brand, stick to a strict shopping list, go later on in the day for reduction shelves, use bogof offers and look out for tokens/vouchers in magazines etc. If you go over to the old style moneysaving forum there are lots of tips on eating on a budget.http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/forumdisplay.html?f=33
Meals/lunch at work - take your own in, including drinks.

Clothing - some spend money EVERY month this isnt nesssary, if your a shopper like this use what you have for now.

Your bills seem very high so worth having a look around for cheaper utility, car insurance etc. If you have a mobile on contract try cancelling and go payg with a free sim with credit on (try freebie forum regular)
Sky tv, hobbies etc can all be stopped for now if you have them.

Do you have anything you can sell on ebay? do you have any skills such as hairdressing/nails etc?

As your income is less then your outgoings i`m assuming your overdrawn too? do you use credit cards? do you have other debts?

All this will help to advise you further so try and do a accurate SOA

  • Thanks for your responses, Believe me Im trying everything I can. The main part of it comes from being mug enough to believe that my relationship was safe - and letting my ex partner borrow all the money I had, and getting loans, credit cards in my name for him. This is what Im stuck with now, I have cancelled everything I can and am literally living on the must haves, I have even cut off my home phone and am using a payg mobile for incoming calls only. Currently I have £26 to last untill the 26th of the month when the vicious circles start again.
Im wondering if there is anything I can do to try and get some of these debts cancelled off, but Im sure they wont believe me when I tell them they are npt mine. If I cant Im sure im screwed!!
