Does this warrant dismissal???

  • Probably dismissal. If she took the day off but says she was at a course then she's obtained a day's pay by deception. In a larger organisation demotion to a lower grade might be an alternative.

    Guarenteed instant dismissal.

Not showing up maybe just about a final warning, lying about it made it a dismisssal

    The rest just compounds it.

I would expect the persons wages to be stopped hence they wont even get a suspension pay for a bit.

Illegal. You can't stop paying them until they have actually been dismissed, presumably after an investigation.

An employee was supposed to go to a training course but didn't attend although she states she did. Would this warrant a disciplinary for dishonesty??

Not sure if this is the way i've read it, but if she say's she did attend, why do you believe she did not?

Could the course instructor just missed her name of the list of those attending? etc.......

If she said she attended, but in reality did not, then yes, that can be gross misconduct.

For disciplinary purposes can you prove she did not attend said course?

OP - is this you as the person going AWOL or you as someone from your company that has done this?

You can if they opt not to show up for work and ignore all correspondence. In a way the OP's "friend" has made it all the easier and cheaper for them.
  • I think this is one of those cases where we need to hear the whole story.

    Absolutely....

Demotion is legal. The employee can agree to it as a lesser sanction than dismissal. The employer is saved the hassle of facing a tribunal for unfair dismissal.
