ooh, just had a search and it turns out that I'm wrong, and the original Mac Mini did indead come with 256mb! I do apologise, and I would edit my prior post, but for some reason I'm unable???!!
Blimey, you learn something new every day!0 -
did these 2005 numbers come with DVD-R/CD-RW drive.0

You can use DSR to your advantage here. The BT page isn't exactly detailed, I assume they will just copy and paste from somewhere.0

All 2005 Mac minis "officially" had either 1.25GHz or 1.4GHz G4's.... the 1.4GHz ones had EITHER the DVD-R/CD-RW or the Apple Superdrive (DVDRW). The speed of the processors and optical drive type did not determine the amount of RAM in the system. All Mac minis had 32mb graphics memory, 1.25GHz G4s had 5400rpm drives, and all 1.4GHz had 4200rpm hard drives.
Only the september silent upgrades had faster hard drives, more graphics memory and faster processors.... either 1.33GHz and 1.5GHz. SOme included dual-layer superdrives. I've got a 1.5GHz silent upgrade with 1GB RAM.... hence my knowledge in this area

Personally, i think its a bad buy.... simply because you can't be sure what you are getting!0

Personally I wouldn't buy one of these.
I purchased a new spangly Intel duo core when they first came out (before bootcamp) and took it back to the Apple store.
As a PC, the OS is snazzy but thats all it is. Decent software is still hard to come by using their operating system.
As a media centre its close but no cigar.
Performance on the faster duo core with 512MB was so-so. I dread to think what it would be like on half the memory!0 -
Thanks for all your opinions ladies and gents - I saw this on thedvdforums and though someone may like it as a base computer perhaps for their kids etc.
I am glad that there is some advice about these though as it does allow for 'problem' bargains to be weeded out!
Cheers again

i think its a good deal. Especially for design students. An intel mac isnt that great an option if you use graphic software...yet! Its quite easy to upgrade the ram in the mini Ive done a few myself. Tiger will run on 256mb but adobe creative suite needs 512.
Mac minis are the bottom of the range so if you need speed get a macbook pro like me :-)Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure0 -

What are you touting as an example of "decent software" that you can't get on the mac? It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.0 -
Has anyone ordered one of these, and got the exact specs of the Mac?0
