Advice with dyed trainers

Hi,
We bought a pair of white trainers for our 5 yr old to use at school. Then, school sent a note back saying that they have decided that everyone should wear black trainers.
OH dyed the trainers black. Little one wore them to school today and his white shorts was stained black!
I remembered I had to soak our tie-dye in salt water to keep the dye in, in art class years ago in school.
Question: Is there something I can apply to hold the dye in the trainers?
Thanks.

If you spray them with a protector spray/scotchguard it will prevent any loose dye from coming off them. Its a water resistant spray but is food for loose dye on shoes.
This is about £2 from supermarkets or £3.50 from shoe shop. The one from the shoe shop is a lot stronger though - it has a higher amount of the protector stuff in!! (honest!)
Obviously if there is lots of loose dye it may not work but if its only surface dye it should do the trick.Sometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -
Thanks. Quakers, you wouldn't remember the product name or brand name of the spray by any chance?Cheers.0
