Can we have a linky to these figures please? ;)

off the top of my head no;),but i saw the figures when reading an article about the true numbers of unemployed which pointed out that as well as 2.4 million officially out of work another 2.5 million were unofficially out of work and would like to work including some 65% of full time students who are actively looking for p/time term work or full time vacation work.I also know from my DD experience and her friends that such work has all but dried up.

I tend to take statistics with a large pinch of salt unless I know their source and how they were calculated.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • Simple answer to the no overdraft is to open another account. Unless she's been playing silly beggars with store cards/credit cards or mobile phones etc she should have no issues getting another student account. Might be worth getting her to check her credit files though just incase there is something nasty lurking.

I thinkthat these statistics,if they exist, will include many students who tell their parents they can't find a job when they're not really looking for one!

Plenty jobs available for students, however it tends to be those students don't care for the work involved.

It's a mentality that is rife amongst students. Apparently a piece of paper = guaranteed job. It doesn't if your attitude sucks.

    I've been Money Tipped!
All my degree students have managed to find part time jobs this year - it is a pre-requisite of one of my courses that they carry out at least 50 hours of work experience in a related industry, and rather than just do 'work experience' we advise them to find a part time job to qualify for this and at east they get paid proper wages - many work experience students get a bare minimum. I've had some employees even not pay as they're doing the student a favour!

Also many banks will not offer the usual student overdraft until she has proof that she is getting the student loan, letter of acceptance from the Uni, etc. I didn't get mine approved until I actually started.

I agree it is hard out there for part time work but my BF's son has just been offered 3 jobs in the course of a week - one in a bank, one as a manager of Dominos and one as Asst p/t manager in a pub, and that's just after 1 year of Uni so far.

I just want to add that it was the city of Canterbury where no part=time student work could be found.
