Criminal convictions and loans.
I recently married a wonderful woman who has a somewhat colourful past during which she was found guilty of theft and deception and has several CCJs against her name (cheque fraud during a particular difficult period in her life). This was approximately 5 years ago since when she's turned her life around completely.
Unfortunately, these kind of convictions aren't viewed lightly by loan companies (quite rightly so!) and my attempts to borrow money against my current home also take into account my wife's history.
Does anyone know whether convictions of this nature stay with you for the rest of your life or whether people are given a second chance?
