Northern Rock Together Mortgage

I took out a NR together mortgage, I then moved the mortgage to C&G and I am left with the unsecured element which is 5% about SVR, when I took it out it was for 28K after 4 years its at 27K and I pay about £300 a month.
I have heard that sometimes the NR will negoiate on the interest rate etc, also that it might be unenforceable, does anybody have any info, also if i do a SAR which letter do I need to send etc.
Any help would be great, I know I took the debt out and I am not trying to get it written off, but the payments are making life very difficult and wondered if I can get the interest rate down a little - I still have about 27 years to go!
Many thanks
