Am I liable for these debts?

My son left his rented flat last September and is now sofa surfing with friends. As he has no permanent address I allowed him to use my address to receive any post. In the last month I became suspicious of two letters which arrived which he left unopened when visiting. Suspecting, rightly, that he was avoiding the issue I opened them to find a debt recovery agency (LCS Leeds) was chasing him for money owed to British Gas, with threats of CCJs and bailiffs. My question is - am I liable for this debt as he is now using my address, and do bailiffs have the right to lean on me for payment. As you can imagine, I am worried that this may not be the only debt waiting to catch up with him.

The debt is in his name so you are not liable! IF DCA came to your home they have no right to enter unless you invite them in SO never let them in.
He needs to contact them and sort this out.DebtFree FEB 2010!Slight blip in 2013 - Debtfree Aug 2014 :j

I would confront your son as to what is going on.
I think worst case scenrio you could start to return the letters writing "no longer at this address".
You are not liable for his debts.
If a bailiff shows up, you need only tell them that he no longer lives there.
The debt is not yours and you are under no obligation to pay - even to a bailiff. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
