VT on Car but British Credit trust give me a default

Hi I am looking for some advise. I did a Voluntary termination on my car in August of last year. I had paid up to half the term of the HP agreement and phoned British Credit trust to check what I had to do which was write in and let them know and they would arrange collection.
I e-mailed the address they gave me and then received a letter a few days later to arrange collection of the car which was then collected 2 days later. I phoned british credit trust who confirmed the car had been collected and that the agreement had been finalised and nothing more to pay and that was the end of the matter.
I have since come to check my Credit report on Experian as myself and the Mrs are looking to get a mortgage for our first house and have found that British Credit trust have put a default on my Credit report which has therefore caused an issue with me getting a mortgage.
I have phoned British Credit trust to query this and was advised that all my payments were up to date and that they are not sure why this was done and that they would get it removed within 24 hours (this was yesterday afternoon) I have checked again this morning and it is still showing on my report.
Can anyone give me some advise as to how I can get this removed as I cannot get a mortgage unless this happends.

cheers

  • Having worked in this area for a while - i know that it can sometimes take upto 48 hours for the amendment to show on your credit file. Strange that they said 24 hours to you. You say that it was yesterday afternoon , if it was after about 2 pm, then 10 o'clock the next day is a pushiing it a bit for chasing them up. I'd check again on Monday afternoon (that gives them 48 working hours), if nothing has changed then give them another call. (They can always write a letter to you confirming that the default was incorrect and they have removed it - that's what a different company did for me and it worked for my Mortgage app)

    Good luck with the mtg!

Is it an actual default against payments or a note on your file.

Voluntary Terminations do appear in your credit reports - different companies interpret them differently.
