forgotten endowment.

In the late 80s during the last big recession, I handed in the keys to my house. My mortgage was with the Halifax and although I had some money in my endowment which I was entitled to, I needed clearance from the Halifax for me to access the funds, which they obviously were not prepared to give. As there were so many repossessions around this time, the Halifax have since wiped the slate clean and I have had a number of accounts, ISAs and credit cards with the Halifax. I could now do with the money from that endowment but all paperwork relating it has long since gone and I cannot even remember who the policy was with. Does anyone know if I could trace this dormant policy and gain access to the funds. As we're now in the second recession in my lifetime, I could really do with the cash!
