I did a blue/green sea around DS2's 'ship' birthday cake last year. Apple juice, vegegel (because it's much easier than gelatine and tastes nicer) and blue food colouring in about 3 different shades swirled together
Thanks for the tip about vegegel, i'll give it a go.

Just use the vege gel with fruit juice..apple or a good one is Welch's white grape with apple and pear. Then add food coloring.

Use gelatin, blue food colour and fizzy lemonade, either regular or sugar free instead of water. Of course the bubbles don't stay, but it solves the flavour and sweetness problem.0
