Help with mortgage

I have been on income support for several years now, as a single parent bringing up my two sons.
I am soon to change over to jobseekers allowance and am keen to get back to work as soon as possible.
I have been studying with the open university for a qualification in supporting learning in primary schools, which ends in May. A friend of mine, who is a teaching assistant, has said a vacancy has just arisen for a job at the school where she works.
As it is only £8,700 per year, I am concerned I won't be earning enough to cover my mortgage and council tax. I am currently receiving benefit to pay the interest (the bank have accepted an interest only mortgage whilst I am on income support).
I realise I will be entitled to tax credits, and I have been on the 'entitled to' website using their calculator to find out just how much I would get. Unfortunately, it works out that I would need to find around £400 per months extra to cover my mortgage and council tax.
I realise I would need to contact my bank to ask if I could carry on with an interest only mortgage, but has anyone else been in this situation and found a way round it?
Thanks

Albeit not very helpful, can I just say I think it's great that you're taking the initiative and getting back into work however you can. I really hope you find success in your teaching, I'd love to have people like you around my kids :-)
Hopefully someone here wiser than I can be more helpful for you.0
