That gets off the bits of blu-tak, but doesn't actually get rid of the marks left behind. I can't find it, but I vaguely remember them using bread to get rid of it? It is an oil, so something like baby shampoo or another mild detergent might do the trick?
  • go to my video on youtube, search for "how to remove blu-tack grease" and i'll show you how to remove the stain. After many trials I found that sodium bicarb and soap works best

Watch the guy on YouTube who uses WD40. It worked well for me on BluTak but not on GreenTak.
    I'm working on it !
  • Hi,
Just thought I'd post in here because I had the same problem and I've solved it. What I did was to put a little bit of undiluted strong floor cleaner onto a cloth and then rubbed it into the stains, trying to keep it on the mark and not the surrounding wall. I left it for a couple of minutes and then rubbed the area with a face wipe. Initially, it looked a lot worse, but when it dried the stains were faded. You could still see a couple of them a little bit so I repeated and they went. It's not 100% perfect but you definitely wouldn't notice it now. Hope that helps.... Probably best to try on a subtle area first.
  • Blu tack recommend using sugar soap. I've found that it will remove the paint too because, even rubbing gently, set in blu tack oil takes a lot of removing. Bicarbonate of soda would also work. Please don't use a test pot! It won't match and will leave a mark. Your landlord or letting agent won't be stupid and they already know about the issue so ask if they are happy for you to do the painting and what colour to use. Remember that if you get the colour on the ceiling that could also need repainting and be added to the list of work the landlord needs to get done. I'd be unhappy if my tenant touched anything in a property I owned without permission, wouldn't you? If you're given the go ahead and confident in your decorating skills, paint over the marked areas first then, when dry, apply two coats of paint to that whole wall. If you aren't confident remember that trade prices are cheaper than getting a standard painter and decorator into your home and let the landlord get it done. I know this is an old post but hope that helps anyone else in this situation.
  • Tryied the sanding tip, it is effective, does not compleaty remove marks, but defently reduces the stain!
  • Hello, I used car valet cleaner (its a foam citrus cleaner) - £3 from asda - worked a charm.

    Cheers
  • Hi,

I don't know if it will work for everyone but I was in the same situation, I used a cheap antibacterial multi surface wipe from tesco, scrubbed the stain and then blasted the area with a hair dryer. Can't see a thing!
  • Hi!! I know this is a post from 2006, but if anyone else is reading this for a solution, I found one!! I bought "Nature's Promise" all-purpose cleaner and sprayed it on the wall. Then I used just a generic brand of disinfectant wipe to wipe away the cleaner.

For some reason, when i used each individually I did not see any change. Though, when I used them together the residue went away!! I don't know the science behind this, but it helped me. I hope it helps you too!!!
