Bank won't stop visa payments

hrmm, damm bank won't stop payments being taken by visa . The payments that I would like to stop are from un-reputable internet companies that at one time or another I have used/bought stuff from, I would obviously like to prevent them taking any more. I have written to their visa disputes but is taking a long time, so I was wondering if I report my card lost, and then them sending me a new one would this then stop all un-auth payments. any advice greatly appreciated

This doesn't help with CPAs. See this thread: Regular Payments off a Credit Card Discussion ...

Reporting the card loss, may stop payments.

The valid from date - End date will be different and they will not be able to process anymore.

It worked for me on my Debit Card.

I beleive the OP is having problems with a Continuous Payment Authority (CPA) - see http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=256 for more details.

Card cancelling very rarely works with CPA's.

As I know, if you report lost of your debit card, they will issue a new one with totally different number. But credit card will not.

PLEASE NOTE!! Cancelling the card does not work, and the bank has no power to stop these transactions. You must have signed an agreement with whoever is debiting your card and therefore it is contractual unless cancelled by yourself. The banks get on my nerves but I also get sick of people who are too quick to pass the buck. What you should not have done was given your card details out.Do what Paul Herring has advised and read the CPA thread.

Its not really the banks fault. Not everything in this world is your banks fault.

You have a continuous payment authority set up with your CC. Its up to the CC to stop it, not the bank.

Yes, they will - absolutely the same as with a debit card. Howerver, this cannot stop CPAs.

Agreed grumbler I think the whole CPA thing is falling on deaf ears.

The CC Company will tell you to go to the company with the CPA - the CC Company has no authority to cancel or refuse a CPA. If the billing company then refuses, the CC company
can then start a dispute process. See end of http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/moneybox/2099270.stm
