update on moneysaving

Hello

Just to give an update on how I am getting on....I posted a a few weeks ago saying I had had enough of spending too much money in ASDA etc, living on processed meals, being in overdraft....

Well, I'm definitely cooking a whole lot more. I've not bought a processed meal since and I've been taking inspiration from this forum. I'm also not throwing out leftovers etc but instead thinking about what I can make from them. Meals made so far include hm pizza, pasta bakes, meatloaf, chicken nuggets, weetabix cake, roast chicken....and I'm sure I have a few of you to thank for some of the great recipes that have been posted. I'm sure I am saving money....just not sure how much yet.

I tried to start keeping a tab on my food spending but I think I am trying to do to much at the one time. I'm sure I will have it sussed by the second month. As someone said, take baby steps and I'll get there...and it is only my first month after all! I'm creating lists to ensure I just buy certain things and I'm stopping and double checking what is in my trolley and asking myself if I really need whats there. Its amazing what makes it back to the shelves!

So thanks guys.....

Weegie

Well done, and keep going. We all have days where we're better than others but the fact that you're conscious of what you're spending is a big help.

You'll find that when you start cooking from scratch, you food bills may not drop stratight away. This is because you are needing to buy things like flour, marg, tins of toms, herbs - all the store cupboard basics - that you never had before. Give it a couple of months and you'll see an amazing difference!

What also helps is a diary for any food you throw away. It helps you identify what you could have done with it (so you do that in the future instead) and also what you are simply buying too much of.
