Help / advice please re barcleys

my boyfriend is with barcleys bank and has a Barcleycard with them. He missed a payment with them before christmas so when he got paid last week they took nearly £900 out of his account they did not tell him they were going to do it or when.when he spoke to them today all they said was well you missed a payment so we took that amount.. i didnt think they could just take it out of his bank with out his knowledge.:j

His agreement regarding the Barclaycard is that he pays a minimum amount each month to clear the debt. As he failed to do this Barclays have in effect "called in the loan" and have moved money from one account that was well in credit to one that is in debit.
I don't think this is unlawful although it may appear unfair and could lead to an embarassing situation.If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
