Tesco online groceries - can I return items to a store

I've generally been happy with Tesco's delivery but got an order delivered tonight and after the drive had gone I noticed that something which was on offer had gone up to full price without warning.

Normally if an offer ends before your delivery date it warns you before you check out and gives you the chance to change your delivery date or change your mind about buying the item. Do they not do this any more?

Also they now do this price match thing where if they substitute an item they only charge you the price of whatever you'd originally ordered BUT I ordered 2 packets of tortilla wraps which were on a BOGOF and they subbed them with seeded wraps which are supposed to be on a BOGOF too. But they've charged for 2 of them instead of 1 and not given me the BOGOF on them.

Now I know you can give things back to the driver but I don't want to have to go over my receipt with a fine toothcomb, does anyone know if you can return things to a store if it's a non food item?

  • I tend to phone up Tescos if there has been a prob with my delivery. All times I have been refunded or part refunded depending on what the issue is. HTH
Never buys anything at full price unless completely forced to do so!!!

  • I am taking my dishwasher tablets back to store today which I ordered online. Ordered 10 packs of Finish Max In 1 Tablets Original 42 pack for £2.44 a pack and they substituted them for the same thing but only 28 in a pack and only sent me 9 packs. They charged me the same price of £24.40 (proper price £68.85).

I was not happy because the ones I ordered were approx. 6p a tablet and the ones they sent me worked out 10p a tablet so would have cost me another £10. I would never have picked those ones up in store. I only ordered them because they were a bargain. Would not sort it out on the phone, not helpful at all. Like you, andrealm, cannot go everything with a fine tooth comb when items are delivered.
  • Just phone them up, they will refund you and you get to keep the items as well. If you put a complaint in via email or phone about these issues, they may even give you a few free delivery codes for your trouble!

i have rang them a few times

    (a) when my frozen bag of groceries just wasn't delivered - they refunded all money
    (b) when i got 3 for £10 wine and they substituted an expensive wine that was not in 3 for £10, they refunded me double the difference so 3 bottles of wine ended up being about £4??? still can't work that out LOL
    (c) when they confirmed payment in (b) by email i replied just pointing out that the naan breads i received went out of date the day of delivery and my delivery was 10pm! and that my cookies were next day but really hard - and they refunded me the money no questions asked.

So don't worry about bringing the items back, it defeats the object of home delivery, they let you keep the item and get your money back by phone

I emailed them and they rang the next day and apologised and said they would refund the difference in price.:)
