On the other hand, doesn't it strike you as the council a bit peed off that someone got one over on them and now some jobsworth wants to get there own back!! :)

    D

No. It strikes me as the council doing what they are supposed to do. When things don't get done properly you see people complain "It's one rule for one and another rule for another". Well the council are trying hard to ensure their planning rules are applied equally strictly to everyone and I think that should be applauded.

As i said before, its not about taste its about whats appropriate and allowable and there has to be a line drawn. This is designated green belt land, he knew he wasnt allowed to build there but decided he was going to do what he liked - and sod what anyone else thought.

Well quite. This isn't the same issue as arguing over whether or not someone should be able to build a house extension that doesn't interfere with anyone else on land they already have a detached house on, or a row over a conservatory that's 2" over the permitted height.

Clearly is odd that someone has to demolish his house, wile some property developer granted permission to build a barn for agricultural use only & then fitted out with 3 bedrooms, study, bathroom, lounge, reception area, storeroom and gym currently worth 500k & he is ok to keep it!!!!

Should not the same law applied in both cases?

Personally I will much prefer to see the Tudor mock castle to remain intact.
Regardless of taste or style I am sure that all will agree that the mock Tudor is more esthetically appealing than the corrugated iron monstrosity.
