Clipping a cat's claws?

I have to clip fonzie's nails quite regularly. He has developed a routine of kneading me every night in bed for about 10 minutes before wandering off. Although he wont knead on bare skin, if i have only a t-shirt on it really hurts! at least if i trim them a bit i dont end up with too many scars the next morning!
i just use a normal toenail clipper and only take the pointy bit off at the end, maybe like a millimetre or so at a time whenever a particular nail starts to hurt.
luckily he is pretty docile (compared to what you all are saying!) so although he squirms a bit, its not too bad. i get worse scratches from the kneading!
on a side note, sadly, the 18kig dog is now trying to copy the cat's night time routine!, and usually at the same time.0 -
Nellie is 'officially' an out door cat so I am hoping come Spring that she will get some natural nail filing action in the garden or popping round to the neighbour's for lunch..but now I have identified the issue I will keep an eye on it and maybe give a little home top up in between professional pedicures0

I can recommend the corrogated cardboard scratch boxes that Pets at Home sell for £5. Noah uses his a lot - they lie on the floor so are quite 'stable', large enough for any size cat and the price is better than many scratch posts!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

I tried to get my kittens used to having their claws clipped from an early age so it was something they were comfortable with. They were fine with it as babies but now they're grown up and one of them absolutely HATES it.
If he sees me with clippers we play chase round the living room until I manage to grab him. He then struggles as though I am attempting to kill him, squealing, crying and writhing. He even hissed at me once and this is the gentlest, most loving cat I have ever known who you can literally flip upside down and fly round in circles without him batting an eyelid. He is a lean 6kg and very strong so I have no chance... until I discovered that by pouring a large pile of treats (Dreamies or Whiskas temptations) on the settee he will stand and devour them and let me clip every single claw without so much as a whimper

My cat freaks out at the sight of proper clippers (my vet even ordered me a proper professional pair of cat clippers, bless him .. the same he uses at the surgery!) ... the only thing she will let me clip her nails with are the little clippers you can buy in Boots to clip baby's nails! They are like a mini mini mini pair of adult nail clippers, the ones where you swivel the top bit round and then press down to clip.
She will just lay there and let me do it, no struggle, no moving ... obviously if she did move or wriggle I wouldn't dare try to cut them with those but she obviously doesn't see them as a threat at all so for now (till she changes her mind about em!) we seem to be ok with these!0
