Airport Security

Hi All, I'm looking for advise about a vacany I've seen to join security at an airport. Its the kind where you search through peoples bags, x-ray, patrol the airport etc It states you must be reasonably fit due to psyhical aspects of the job.
I have a very bitty employment record with further education and claiming jobseekers inbetween and they want a 5 year employment check (thats going to be hard to complete!) I also have an Arts degree which is proving to be a big barrier in getting a job other than in the arts as they dont think im interested.
I'm also female and wondering if this is a largely male role? Do i stand a chance with my background?

You would certainly stand a chance - female security is a requirement, as they can't have the men giving the ladies a rub down!! The 5 year employment history is to make sure you've not been in prison or anything - it doesn't matter what you were actually doing/working as/claiming benefit as long as all your time is accounted for.0

Oh i see, so you don't have to have been working for 5 years. I'll print the application off then. After applying for many many jobs lately and not getting anywhere you start getting a bit pessamistic! Thanks for your optimism.0

My friend (female) applied for a similar role and got the job - she was a part time student, EU but not British citizen and had odd-jobs. She got to play the game looking at x-ray images as part of the interview (I think).
I'm pretty certain it won't require 5 years work experience for this job; just a background check (e.g you could be at college or unemployed) - a requirement for anything that requires a security clearance.0 -
Should be fine. You're playing Where's Wally for grown ups all day.
Does applicant have clean criminal record?
Does applicant have pulse?
Can applicant say "Duuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuh"?
Answer yes to all three and you get the job.0 -
Yeah, as long as the past 5 years can be accounted for, it's not a problem. It's only an issue if there's time where you weren't working, claiming benefits or in education, but even then if you have a reasonable explanation (e.g. time off for travelling) it's not a problem.0
