Has anyone used Escrow through Peopleperhour.com?

I've recently registered on the website as a freelancer, and would like to know your thoughts about how they handle payment management, as I don't know anything about Escrow.

TIA!

I haven't used that particular site, but it has a good reputation, and i have used escrow for freelancing. It is a good system, basically the company that hires you for a project pays peopleperhour upfront, so unless your work sucks you know you will get paid.
This works for the hiring company as well, because you cant just take the money and run.
  • Brilliant, thanks for that info!
  • I have won two freelance jobs through PeaplePerHour and the company want's to pay mevia paypal. I presume this totally bypasses PPH which is good from the freelancers point of view as they won't get their big cut from your fee.

You can always use one of the new FSA and HMRC registered online escrow services, here in the UK.

They only charge a £3 flat fee, and in some ways the protection they offer you is of a higher quality and stronger that Peoplehour's and ScriptLance's.

Since 1 November 2009, with the introduction in the UK of the Payment Services Regulations, escrow services finally come under the auspices of the FSA and HMRC.
You will find genuine escrow companies at the FSA online register at www.fsa.gov.uk/register/psdFirmSearchForm.do (try searching there for 'escrow' as an example) and/or at https://customs.hmrc.gov.uk/msbregister/checkTerms.do (try searching there for 'tru' in the name box and 'NW11' in the postcode box for one such genuine example).

These new online escrow services may offer exactly the service you are looking for, and cost only £3 or so all-in to use.

Beware, there are many, many fraudulent escrow services which look real - even quoting UK addresses, phone numbers and fake FSA & HMRC registration numbers. They look extremely professional, and any money posted to them (or goods sent relying on them) will be lost forever. So only ever work with a firm on the FSA register and/or the HMRC register, which will be safe.
