Cheap holiday ideas anyone?

Hello!
Right, so i've been trying to plan some time away this year. I'm single (unfortunately :cool:) and all my crazy friends are married with children. So my only option is going away on my own. I'm ok with that, BUT I want to do something that is fun, with not too much solitary time, maybe some sunshine and most importantly that isn't going to break the bank.
What I would love to do is one of the Europe Tours that companies like STA travel run but at around £600-£800 I just can't justify it.
I've found a learn to surf course which is about £300, but with flights it goes up to £400 and thats without paying for dinners......which just seems like a lot of money when I'm saving for a house deposit.
Does anyone have any ideas? All suggestions gratefully recieved...

i think the best think to do being single is get a last min deal, when i went on honeymoon which was a cruise down the nile it cost us ~£600 per person however when we got there we met up with this loverly lass and got talking and found out she went to the travel agents on the Saturday and booked her cruise (leaving the next day) and got the same holiday as us for £150
you also end up having the excitement of not knowing where you are going to go until the last min!Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
I looked into interailing, but it was so expensive it's cheaper just to do city breaks. I've got one booked for next week to Barcelona - £20 for return flights, and £10 a night for a youth hostel, total £50 plus spending money. Youth hostels are great, you get to meet loads of new people and have a laugh with them. I prefer them to normal hotels where you just stay in your room and don't get to know anyone else.Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.0

Wow - Gonzo's idea sounds way more exciting than mine...
I'm in a similar position to you (except I now have my house and need to get money together to find out where the leak is that's causing my boiler to lose pressure
)
I was looking into National Trust working holidays - UK based so I guess that might put the sunshine out the window! But you can get a weeks holiday, although you will be fixing up estates or footpaths etc. with others, from £50 onwards. I figured it'd be a fun and healthy holiday until I can afford something a bit more luxurious

Another option is to pick your dates and then see where you can get really cheap with the budget airlines. Not quite in the sun, but I have just booked a week in Tallinn fro £250 for me and my girlfriend as we are trying not to spend a lot. It won't get you anywhere exotic, but will serve a purpose. Flights to places like Faro and Malaga can be very cheap.0
