Re-evaluation of Rates

A couple of years ago it came to my attention that my rates are more than some of my neighbours. We are talking £200-£250 more per year. I checked a website (can't remember what it was) and confirmed that yes indeed ours are more.
We all live in semis although our house is slightly larger ie the rooms are a bit bigger, not extra rooms if you see what I mean. I've struggled to come to accept why we pay so much more.
Has anyone ever had a re-evaluation of rates done? If so how do you go about it? Did it change things for you? Or am I playing a dangerous game and maybe end up paying more if I go down this line?
Any advice appreciated.

Hi Ex - you can appeal - here's the info http://www.nivaluationtribunal.org/
you have nothing to lose by appealing and comparable properties are what they will base it on - is your's a similar size property etc. It definitely won;t be held against you.
good luck,

I have just applied for my rates to be re-valued.. but they got back to me sayin this will take 3 months ... i don't understand why it takes so long???0

Write firstly to your district valuer who will re-value, if it's re-valued and it doesn't reduce and or it increases you can then request further action.
Ask them to give you the reasons and cause for the valuation, when you have this information you can then go about proving them wrong

It'll take longer than that - you've received a standard letter, they'll issue you several more in the next year every 3 months.
They've thousands of these re-vals all the time, along with staff restrictions and admin work in office, there's lots going in the back round, just means it takes so much longer to do it all

so does it get back dated, when they eventually get the re-valuation done?
And when do they back date to - date of application or date new rate was set?0 -
They back-dated our revaluation to 2007 when the new system came in - they applied the overpayment to this year's rates, so our monthly payment has been very low this year.0
