    1. private free gym membership,
    2. Christmas bonus fixed at £1500 per year
    3. Contribution based pension
    4. Sickness paid from day 1 until self cert
    5. 29 days annual leave (pro rata)
    6. Flexible working (where role permits)

    And also:
    - free on-site parking
    - access possible by walking, cycling, train in case of bad weather or the car being off the road :)
    - in an area where housing is affordable
    - close to the coast
    - in one geographic area of 200 mile diameter.

I could be looking for some time ... or, I'll take the first cr4ppy offer anybody gives me, for anything, anywhere... like usual.

So is the only thing I'm missing from my calculations is social security and medicare tax?

Pension? 401K or whatever it's called over there?

Don't forget the intangible stuff - office space (won't change if you already rent/own a large enough place I know but its still technically a cost), energy used to run their part of the office, consumables, capital spend (if you need to buy them a computer, desk, etc). I'd really count on double the salary as being about right.

As for getting better information, don't you have people that help small businesses over there - I think a friend from the states mentioned something called the "better business bureau" to me? Or if you're in a profession then perhaps your professional association would have data from other members on the cost of running an office?

Not that we don't want to help, it's just that I can see a business in America missing something real important in its costings if the data is from a bunch of Brits pulling numbers out of thin air ;-)
If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything
