Righto, wondering if any of you could lend a bit of a hand. I've recently been offered a job and they've asked me to provide references for all my employment stretching back 5 years.
I've been in my current job pretty much bang on a year and before that was volunteering for 3 months, so have had no trouble getting these references sorted.
The problem is that also covered in this 5 year period are two jobs i had brifly whilst at University; working as a sales assistant in a clothes shop for a couple of months over christmas '05, and then working as a door to door canvasser (double glazing - fun times I know!). Unfortunately it's proved impossible to obtain any sort of reference from either period of employment. Because of this prospective employer have asked me to contact the inland revenue to get comfirmation that I was employed for these periods.
Thing is I've had a look on the inland revenue website and can't find any indication of who/what department I'd phone in order to sort this out. I did try calling one number i found and just got someone who was incredibly unhelpful and told me it wasn't their department. So i'm a bit stumped really, might just have to try that same number again another time and hope for someone more helpful I guess, any suggestions would be grand!

How about starting with the tax office dealing with your current employer, it'll be on your payslip or available from your payroll dept.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Surely you would have payslips, P45's or P60's which should do this ?0
