Kenwood Chef

I've luckily inherited my grandmothers kenwood chef

this one:

(thats a google image, not my own)

She hasn't used it in a long time and it smells really horrible when you switch it on (i'm told its burning dust).
I was wondering if you lovley people knew how i could make it stop smelling - leave it on?.. i'm not sure.. also how to clean it up (like what to use) to restore it to its former beauty.

Thanks in advance.

Firstly - THAT IS AWESOME!!! WHAT A BEAUTY!!! - you are so lucky!! I would try and 'open' it up a bit and see if I could vacuum inside and just clean the outside with warm soapy water, some bits might need regreaseing, someone on here will come along with expert knowledge, I just want to express my wonder and say how jealous I am!!!!

Wow that must be one of the originals? My mum and mother in law both had the same model bought in the 1960s but it looked more "modern" than yours! Theirs did sterling service for an incredible number of years - hope you manage to get it sorted out and useable.
  • aha yes.. i am so excited to use it.
Its from the 50's - and has been very well looked after.

    Thanks for the advice guys

i have been drooling over the above site for ages, i would so love to inherit one of those

tbh, all aged kenwood motors smell, its just something you have to put up with on the older ones. even when i had mine serviced it still had a musty smell, and a year later, the smell hasnt gone away, so i dont think running it, will burn off the dust

  • Thanks for the website. Looks useful - can't afford to go through that atm. Prehaps a birthday present.

Thanks for the advice on the smell. My OH has just told me it just smells like the motors burning.
