Storing food help!

I am fairly new to OS but have been doing some bits without even knowing it! I am loving this site and keep getting distracted by something else could sit here for hours if my two year old and almost one year old would let me.
Iam after a bit of advice about food storage I do a big food shop once a month from a menu plan, but I still seem to be in a supermarket every few days topping up on fresh veg so is there a way I can buy and store enough for a month is it possible to freeze it and use it or am I going to have to keep these supermarket trips up which always end up costing me more than planned!
I would also be interested to know how long people keep homemade things for such as soups, cakes, etc if I make soup on a Monday will it still be alright for a few days in the fridge. I freeze everything now but I am forever forgetting to get things out to defrost in time which leads to more supermarket trips!
Thank you for all your advice it is really nice to finally feel like I fit somewhere.
I am sure I will be back with more questions

Soup should keep for a couple of days in the fridge. But alternatively you could make yourself a reminder about what you need to get out of the freezer somewhere that you can't ignore/miss it.GC Jan £318/£350, Feb £221.84/£300, Mar £200.00/£250 Apr £201.05/£200 May £199.61/£200 June £17.25/£200

I tend to blanch all my fresh veg within a day or so of getting it I then portion it up and stick it in the freezer.
I also have a HUGE sign on the front door that reminds me to get stuff out of the freezer. Its on my front door so as I'm leaving for work I am reminded!! :rotfl:Banana LoversBuy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning0 -

I do the same too. That way WHEN i see a bargain for veg i can buy in bulk and freeze.
I've also got in to the habit now of getting things out of the freezer (its outside) when i let my chicks out.
Glad you're enjoying the thread. Yes you do begin to do things the OS way without realising it. Plus people are sooooo helpful here.
I've asked some stupid questions but every one is kind and not laughed at me. (well i can't hear them laughing anyway) lol:rotfl:Debt at 01/01/2010 £130 MBNA :T

If you have a meal plan, check it each evening and see what the next days dinner is going to be. If you need to get something out of the freezer to defrost, get it out then and pop it in the fridge.
I find that because my kitchen's so cold, if I take something out to defrost in the morning, it'll still be fairly frozen when I want to cook it, so I take it out the night before and shove it in the microwave (just to store it out of the cats way!) then when it's defrosted at about lunch time, I put it in the fridge until I'm ready to cook it.0
