Gym membership and bankruptcy

I wondered if you were allowed to keep a gym membership?
I go because since I was diagnosed with depression I have found exercise really helps me mentally and my doctor recommends it.
Do you think I would be allowed to keep it on this basis?
Thanks
Becky
PS. Soooo glad I found this site, it's great! :rotfl:

If its a private gym and the membership is expensive local councils some times have council run gyms and they might not be as expensive and in some cases depending on your circumstances can get reduced gym costs for me that is 22.50 a month and I can use any gym run by the council.0 -
Probably not. Its your word against the OR's. Do you have proof from your doctors? Can you get it?? The OR will have heard every excuse imaginable I would have thought and its their job to take the luxury away (but maintain a standard of living).
If you can argue that this membership is a standard of living, then you can always try your luck.
What you may be able to do is add a tiny bit onto your housekeeping expenses and hopefully they may leave you with that. Failing that, all I can suggest is hitting the oldstyle board once OR has given you a budget and seeing if you can squeeze the gym fee out of that - perhaps change gym too or reduce your membership (as Bigdec has suggested).0 -
i have allowed gym membership for when person is obese, would allow it for other health reasons too (the guidance is the OR should). After all exercise or proven to help depression. You should get a letter from your gp stating ytour health condition, his recommended treatment incl the gym. Also it should not be a premium gym like esporta/holmes place. roughly £30-£40 a month should be ok, £60 would not.0

Do you really need a gym though? Why not go for a run in the park?

Good luck to the OP with this one. I have the same condition and the gym is a definite help to me. I don't see membership as a "luxury" and go to the gym as it's a safe environment. Running in the park round here is not a good idea!
Best of luck, beckythebear! What if the hokey cokey is what it's all about? :eek:Official "Bring back Mark and Lard NOW! or else (please)" Member 160 -

And be harrased by hooligans, with a permenant can of white lightening stuck to his hand, whilst dodging dog crap and being chased by the local Pitbul.

It's a great way to keep fit, imagine how fast you'd have to run!!!Disclaimer: Any spelling mistakes or incorrect grammar is purely coincidental and in no way reflects the intelligence of the author.0
