Dried weight and tinned weight = chickpeas

I have bought dried chickpeas and (used to, pre OS) usually cook an amount and chuck away what I don't use.
Haven't cooked them myself now for some years.
I don't want to cook the whole lot because I don't have any freezer space, but have a recipe for a 420gm tin.
Does that include water weight?
How many dried beans would I need to boil up for the same tinned weight?
Help please.................

Hi Lillie - couldn't find a thread but did a google, which suggest 3 x 420g tin is equivalent to 1/4kg (or 1/2lb) ? Does that help? Info found here

I am new to dry chickpeas so not entirely sure myself x

Edit - thread here and Kethry posted this link which may also help

I use 125g dried to give similar amounts that a can would - the drained weight of a can is 240g of chickpeas. I got this from Madhur Jaffrey's World Vegetarian Cooking- she's got a few useful yields like this!

like penny penguin, I use half the weight of dried. But do remember to look at the drained weight of the can in a 420g can the drained weight is usually given as approx 260g, so I'd be using 130g of dried.:D

    HTH :)

A quick suggestion. Weigh the beans after cooking and draining and you'll know for future reference what a certain amount of raw weight will produce.
