cod liver oil & Arthritis

Does anyone have any experience of using cod liver oil to help relieve arthritis.

I don't want to be taking pain killers all the time. I only take them when I'm going out and then rub in Udder ointment in when i get back in, and yes it is for what it sounds like. :silenced: But it gives a very gentle warming. At home I hobble and try to bear it. Luckily its mostly bearable.

I was wondering if cold liver oil is of any use or would I be throwing money down the drain.

Thanks. :)

Often the old recipes are the best. Thats why generations of mothers used to spoon it donw their kids necks every day!

I think that if you have the recommended dose every day,it will do you more good than harm. Use the real bottled stuff, orange flavoured if you cant stand the taste. If your overweight, lose it as this places more strain on joints. Taking CLO is better than taking painkillers.
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..

There do seem to be clinical studies showing that cod liver oil helps in arthritis but it's best to try it yourself and see. It's usually best to try these things for at least three months or longer before you decide whether it's helping.

I take a Omega 3 fish oils capsule every day and also Glucosamine Sulphate. I have done for the past 3 years and my symptoms have not got any worse. I also use Iboprofen gel to deal the pain, which it does quite nicely. I have arthritis in my shoulders and elbows. Until I started using the gel (and if I should forget any time) my shoulders would seize up during the night and the pain on moving would wake me up. I apply it every morning and night. Tesco's own is cheaper than the branded one at about £1.85 a tube which lasts me 2 months.

Hope some of that helps. I suppose it depends on which areas are affected and how severe the pain is.

I'm not sure if this helps, but a while ago I went to the doctor with pains in my hands, thumb joint and wrists. I do a lot at work on the pc and I also massage in my spare time so was expecting an rsi type condition. She said it maybe rsi or it also the start of arthritis given my age (39!!!!!??), and to take glucosamine sulphate. She said you have to take 1500mg a day, and if there's no improvement after 3 mths to stop taking it as it's not working and you're just wasting your money!

    Luckily, it's worked for me.

I find glucosamine & chondroitin from Holland & Barrett (get it when it's on offer) has more effect for me than CLO though I do still take CLO capsules (I think the actual oil is mroe effective than the capsules but I can't take it even when mixed with OJ like my Mom does!)
Another remedy which can't hurt is honey mixed with a dash of hot water & a tablespoon of cider vinegar. I've read some amazing stories about this one but yet to try it myself.

I tried CLO for six months and it had no effect on my arthritis although I know other people who swear by it. Glucosamine doesn't work either. I am just one of the unlucky ones.
