Different payment dates each month???

I was under the impression that my monthly mortgage payment fell due on 15th day of every month (or the nearest working day) based on the details when I signed up for my mortgage. While looking through my annual statement for 2009 a few days ago, I realised that in some months, the statement said that my monthly payment was due on different dates (ranging from 1st to 11th day of the month). I had no idea about this and I looked back through my previous annual statements and found this to be the case in previous years too. The interest due on my mortgage is calculated daily. I await an explanation from my mortgage provider, but I wonder if anyone else has had the same experience, as the banks and building societies might be making a fortune as a result of the additional interest they might be charging us all (e.g. if they say March 2009's payment was due on 8th March and my direct debit is set up to pay on 15th day of every month)...I'll keep you posted on what their response is. I also wonder if changing the 'due date' without notifying me is actually legal, particularly when I had no choice but to pay by direct debit?....
